What is a Nursing
Home?
A Nursing Home is a place for

needs A nursing home is a place for
people such as the infirm and elderly who need help to
undertake basic living needs such as eating, going to the
bathroom and bathing and also assistance to go to the
market or park, people that need the assistance of others
to accomplish the everyday little things that you and I
may take for granted. A nursing home is the perfect place
where there are dedicated carers whose sole
responsibility is to take care of the special
needs of your loved one. In other words, the nursing
home knows what your loved one wants and is ready to give
them the attention and care that they need.
Some nursing homes are situated within hospital or
medical center grounds and others exist as separate nursing
units, but it is more normal for the nursing homes to be
completely separate facilities. They may be publicly or
privately owned by individuals, or run as a not-for-profit or
for-profit unit. The number of beds varies from say 20 to 400
and across the USA the average number of beds is around
102.
There are many facilities within the
nursing home that are provided specifically to enhance
the value of your loved ones life. There is absolutely no need
for nursing homes to be like a prison They have beautiful,
colourful gardens and grounds where your loved one may sit and
enjoy the beauty of nature, the rooms are bright and
airy and just because it's a nursing home it doesn't
mean that the nursing home furniture has to be
ugly!
These days nursing homes frequently lay on a program of
entertainment such as singing, dancing, card games and other
forms of entertainment which your elderly relative will
enjoy.
The need for a nursing home is often defined by an individual’s
need for 24-hour assistance. This assistance does not
necessarily mean an individual needs a nurse to watch over them
while they sleep, but rather that one might need help getting
to the loo in the middle of the night, or a reminder to take
medication in the morning. More than half of all nursing home
residents need assistance with more than 3 daily activities,
whilst only 11.3 % have no substantive restrictions.
A nursing home is an ideal place for your loved one. But to
ensure that you have chosen the best nursing home to take care
of your elderly relative it is a good idea to check out all of
the facilities and help on offer, after all they are probably
going to be there for the rest of their lives. Don't they
deserve the best care possible in your chosen nursing home?
